Embrace Autumn Weddings

Autumn conjures up images of being sat indoors by a warm fire, whilst outside the leaves are turning from green to red and are beginning to fall off the trees. The Duke looks stunning in any season, especially in Autumn where there are an array of exquisite colour palettes in rustic orange, copper, gold, red and yellow jewel tones which accentuates its decor. This teamed with lanterns and fairy lights creates a truly magical atmosphere.

We thought we’d share some Autumn ideas to inspire your big day…

Cascading flowers become the star of the show and create stunning natural centrepieces alongside round wooden logs, red apples, pears and berries. Asking your florist for leafy, wild looking bouquets with flowers that are in season not only look stunning, but are an excellent way to keep costs down! Candles at varying heights can look very effective as centre pieces and are lovely for those dark evenings, making your venue feel cosy and romantic.

Wedding stationery is a great way to convey a theme from the moment guests receive their invites, or even save the date cards if you choose to send them. Your chosen style can then be carried throughout the whole day with everything from table numbers to the seating plan coordinating seamlessly. Stationery in natural colours and materials combined with twine and hessian can create a subtle hint of autumn. Anon Design have a stunning range of wedding stationary and even offer a bespoke service, perfect for couples who know what they are looking for or have a specific theme. The images below show table plans by F3 Design. The wooden design adds a rustic element, which along with wooden log centrepieces would add a very autumnal feel.

As for the wedding cake, a simple twist can give an autumnal feeling. Flowers and berries on a simple, clean cake can look very effective and in keeping with the season, illustrated beautifully with the designs below by Cut me off a Slice featuring seasonal berries. The naked cake is very in at the moment and focuses on the beauty of the cake itself. Using the same flowers as those in the bouquets and venue decoration can not only keep the cost down but can also give a feeling of cohesion to the day.

Autumn provides a great opportunity to play with colour! You can take advantage of the time of year by combining a rich colour palette with a range of brighter colours to give your wedding a truly unique feel.

Bridesmaid dresses in rich deep colours can look stunning, or possibly neutrals such as cream or gold for those who prefer lighter shades. How about making a real statement with your dress and going for something which every will remember!

This could be paired with a wrap or pashmina for strapless dresses to cover shoulders for any outdoor photos. The images below by The Lucky Sixpence show beautiful bespoke items of jewellery matched with a faux fur wrap, which works well and gives a vintage feel.

Autumn provide a great opportunity for some fabulous photos. Outdoor images can look stunning, with the colours from the leaves contrasting against the white (in most cases) of the bride’s dress. As mentioned in our ‘Styling a Summer Wedding’ blog, we are just a stone’s throw away from the Hoe, looking over Plymouth Sound which makes for spectacular photos. Even rainy shots can look great, especially when you have an amazing photographer such as Toby Lowe! Just make sure you wrap up warm in between photos or take a flask of hot chocolate!
