Wedding Anniversary Celebrations

It has been a special day at the hotel today with not one, but two lovely couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries. Jon and Margaret Newell returned to the Duke this morning to celebrate an amazing fifty years of marriage. The couple held their wedding at a local church on 27th July 1968 before returning to our Ballroom with a hundred of their friends and family. They fondly remember their wedding breakfast, with a starter of Prawn Cocktail, a main course of Chicken and a Fruit Salad dessert. We are thrilled to be working alongside this wonderful team and look forward to attending the Weekender ourselves! We are delighted to announce the three commissioned artists for Plymouth Art Weekender 2018! This year the Weekender will take place on 28th, 29th and 30th September. Plymouth based Laura Denning who wowed audiences with her independent project Benthic Caress at last year’s Weekender, has been selected for our Local Engagement Commission. Following the launch of the Make a Difference for Mayflower 400 campaign in 2016, Plymouth businesses have been busy volunteering across the city ahead of the commemorations in 2020. The campaign is led by Improving Lives Plymouth and a partnership between Plymouth City Council, the Duke of Cornwall Hotel, the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership and the City Centre Company and encourages businesses to invest in their own premises and make a commitment to the public realm between now and 2020. Fun at West Hoe Park

It is that time of year again where our team have been busy at West Hoe Fun Park preparing the train and boat for the summer season ahead! In 2015 we first started our journey with the train and boat at West Hoe Fun Park. The park is so beautifully maintained, but these two items needed some TLC. Walter Combstock has fond memories of the park with his children and now grandchildren and with Jonathan Morcom the joint owners of the hotel were keen to invest in the local community.
