The Ocean City Blues N Jazz Festival returns for a third year to The Barbican, 9 – 11 August 2019.
The Parade will be full of sounds of blues and jazz over the three days.
The event is free to attend – come along, enjoy a drink and a bite to eat while listening to the music.
FRIDAY 9 AUGUST
12noon Jeremy Huggett’s Band of Gold is extremely versatile and appeals to everyone’s musical tastes playing a wide range of music including traditional jazz & mainstream jazz, swing, dinner/lounge jazz, blues, rock & roll and the sounds of the 60s & 70s.
1.15pm Steve Dow & Martin Jenkins
2.30pm Swingology are a vintage swing band, providing hot, seductive, romantic and fiery Parisian swing, to chic, stylish and elegant weddings and functions.
3.45pm Gozer Goodspeed is a singer-songwriter playing a footstomping blend of blues-folk-rock
5pm Caddick and Parkes plays fun, boogie woogie, jazz and blues with a vintage edge, playing originals and classic covers. Don’t miss this captivating, heart warming duo.
6.30pm Adam Sweet band plays a unique blend of blue-eyed blues and soulful southern rock.
7.45pm Benny Guitar Carr a guitarist who plays blues, jazz and roots. Ben performs regularly as an energetic and engaging solo artist playing slide guitar and building up a big sound using a cajon, drum kick pedal and tambourine.
9pm Smokey’s King Shufflers have developed a reputation for blistering and authentic live performances that are hard-hitting, but full of dynamics. The band can go from a whisper to a roar in the blink of an eye leaving audiences breathless
SATURDAY 10 AUGUST
12noon Magnolia Jazz Band
1.15pm Jack Cookson, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, stylistically influenced by roots music from both sides of the Atlantic. Combiningdry and visceral word play with intricate finger-style guitar arrangements, to create emotionally charged yet honest and memorable songs
2.30pm La Vie En Rose the heartfelt wail of the blues; the sultry heat of the campfire; the crazy swirl of the bal musette, all fused together with virtuosity and passion in the melting pot of 1930’s Paris: the result was gypsy jazz.
3.45pm Sons of the Delta welcome to the home of international blues act and “Britain’s Jelly Roll Kings”, providers of fine juke joint blues and americana – Sons of the Delta
5pm Jazz Lounge will be performing a dynamic blend of Swinging Jazz and Latin Standards.
6.30pm Jessica and the Rabbits boasting a strong 7-piece line-up, Jessica and the Rabbits are a lively, fun and energetic function band that hail from the South-West.
7.45pm Jeff “the Horse” Horsey is a one man blues band – expect a mix of restructured classics as well as original songs with a hint of Americana, pounded out on vintage guitars with lashings of gutsy harmonica
9pm Russell Sinclair is a singer and songwriter. His music is inspired by genres such as folk, acoustic, blues and Americana, bridging the gaps between artists as diverse as Johnny Cash and Stevie Ray Vaughan
SUNDAY 11 AUGUST
12noon Ronnie Jones Quartet is made up of four of the finest musicians in the South West, and have established a reputation for playing accessible e jazz standards woven together through imaginative programming.
1.15pm Rob C Force is a Plymouth-based songwriter, vocalist and guitar player who performs either as a solo acoustic artist or with his 4-piece rockin’ electric combo, C Force
2.30pm Common As Kings
3.45pm UK Meltones
5pm Andy Quick band creates a cocktail of feel good funk, roots, and wild blues. Andy has a unique voice and a knack for a catchy chorus, the band is tight and the hype is growing.
