What was your inspiration behind Satori, had you always wanted to run your own business?
My inspiration was to create a beauty salon where I would want to spend my time, being treated by beauty therapists who are trained, qualified, experienced and invest in their clients through providing a 5* customer experience for them.

I hadn’t always wanted to run my own salon, but it became clear to me that in my late 30’s that I could utilise my business skills and my training within the beauty industry for film and TV to create a premier beauty salon.

Lots of our readers will be in the process of planning their wedding, is there any advice you would give couples prior to their big day? (i.e. trials etc.)
Focusing on the brides hair and make up for her wedding – I would advise that they choose their make up and hair artist carefully to ensure that they are not let down on the day, for example: is there a back up plan if the make up artist is incapable of carrying out the make over on the wedding day and are they insured?

I always insist that the brides I work with attend my salon for a trial of their hair and make up styles a few months before their special day and I spend as much time with the bride as needed to make sure she is comfortable with her desired look. I take copious notes and photographs so that I have an accurate record of every detail of their look and at their trial I also ask that they bring their jewellery and hair accessories so that we can see how the whole look fits in place. There are so many aspects to consider for example: the time of year of your wedding and whether your skin is likely to change colour / texture before the wedding. Also, beauty treatments such as microblading, anti wrinkle treatments and waxing, (to name but a few) need to be booked in advance of the wedding day.

Male grooming is increasing in popularity and the Grooms often visit us for manicures, waxing and massages before their wedding as they too want to look amazing.

What should brides consider when choosing beauty treatments prior to their wedding day?
It all depends on what the treatment is. Microblading would need to be booked at least two months in advance of the wedding day & our bespoke teeth whitening service & anti wrinkle treatments should be booked a few weeks before the wedding. Nail treatments and most waxing can be carried out a few days before as with eyelash extensions, brow tinting and massage. Facials can be carried out over a period of a few weeks, depending upon the nature of the facial and it’s purpose.

Have you noticed any trends with wedding hair and make-up, or is every bride different?
Every bride is different and that is the ‘beauty’ of the job. Creating the perfect look for each bride is a fabulous process of collaboration and trust along with a strong idea of how you’d like to look for your wedding. I have noticed a move towards more themed weddings over the last year or so, such as the soft, yet chic 1920’s inspired look to the Victory Rolls of a 1940’s inspired wedding.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?
Satori excel in exceeding the expectations of our clients through delivering all our treatments with 5* customer service. We are a team of 10 so there is always a beauty therapist who can help and assist with your beauty needs. Their experience and training is second to none in Plymouth as we pride ourselves in delivering the best treatments through partnering with the industry’s leading beauty product providers. My experience is vast within the film, TV and theatre world, so I bring that experience with me and all that encompasses from working within that industry. Satori’s location is central, secure and easily accessible, ensuring that you can visit the salon and speak with our beauty team on any day of the week. We genuinely care about our clients and their journey with Satori, so your treatment does not end when you walk out of our salon.

What does the future hold for Satori, are there any exciting projects planned?
We launched our partnership in December with Hartley Clinic to fulfil the growing demand of our clients for access to Anti Wrinkle treatments, Dermal Fillers and Bespoke Teeth Whitening treatments. Our ‘on line’ product purchasing platform has just launched through our website along with the Satori Academy which will offer a range of Beauty themed training courses through to those focussing on Customer Service, Communication, Brand Awareness and Operational Skills for Beauty Salon Management. We are also striving towards opening other Satori Salons within the Southwest in 2017.
