EXPLORING THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WORK!!

Tuesday 17th November, 2015|Category: News

Today we have been joined by two students from Kingsbridge Community College as part of Enterprise Week. It’s an opportunity for students to find out more about the work environment and consider what they  might like to do in the future. Milly and Lily asked to join our team for the day and we were delighted to give them a taste of the hospitality industry.IMG_0598IMG_0599IMG_0644

Starting with a tour of the 72 bedroom hotel the girls were wow’ed by the four poster beds, impressed by the view from the tower and loved the sparkling chandelier in our restaurant. They experienced the laundry, turning around a bedroom & cleaning the public areas with our house keeping team and then joined our ops team to watch them expertly serve lunch to over 100 hungry guest.

They heard all about Weddings, looking at some stylised shoots and discussed our big event for 2016. They joined the Events Team and typed out menus for future parties listening to what goes into planning a big occasion. A highlight for them both was a stint on Reception welcoming guests & learning about how we check people in; with thousands of guests each year they started to understand the scale of the operation.

Understanding PR & Marketing formed part of their afternoon leading to their final task to add a news story to the website (hopefully successful if you’re reading this now!) and understanding the role social networking plays in the business.

The goal of the day is to enrich education and inspire them for the future. We work with many organisations as we want to invest in the next generation. Giving children an opportunity to discover different career paths has to be a great way of allowing them to explore various paths for the future.

Hopefully we gave Milly and Lily a good insight into the hospitality industry and the wonderful world of work!
