2019 in Britain’s Ocean City

2019 promises to be a corker as we get closer to the launch of the Mayflower 400 commemorations in November. Before that we have the annual calendar to entertain us with so many fantastic events happening across the city. For us a family favourite is Pirate Weekend – it gets bigger and better every year and it is definitely worth booking a weekend away if you’re not local. Flavour Fest, the British Firework Championship and the Ocean City Blues n Jazz Festival all keep the city busy over the summer months, and the events keep coming right up until the Christmas celebrations which begin in November. Plymouth is the City that doesn’t stop – there are so many reasons to plan a trip this year!

And when visiting Britain’s Ocean City why not stay in style, look no further than the Duke! An overnight stay in one of the hotel’s 72 individually styled bedrooms with a fully cooked breakfast the following morning is a great way to set you up for a day of exploring.

The team at Visit Plymouth have compiled 115 things to do in Plymouth. These include the popular Polar Bear Explorer Trail, come and visit our cub before the 3rd March! Simply find 20 polar bears to be in with a chance of winning fantastic prizes (including dinner in our 2 AA Rosette awarded Restaurant). Plymouth is home to the fabulous Flavour Fest, the South West’s largest free food and drink festival. This three-day event takes place from 31st May and is a must for foodies! Armed Forces Day will be back on 29th June, giving attendees a chance to enjoy entertainment, activities and displays on Plymouth Hoe whilst showing support to our forces. The Seafood Festival returns towards the end of the year (14th and 15th September), for a two-day celebration of the very best fresh fish on offer in the city. The Royal William Yard will also have it’s Good Food Markets, just a stroll from the hotel they’re the perfect start to a Sunday, or how about the Illuminate Festival in November for a vibrant light show that the whole family will love.

Local attractions such as Plymouth Gin, located on the historic Barbican offer a chance to get creative, with their fascinating Master Distiller’s Tour and of course there’s the National Marine Aquarium – the largest of its kind in the UK. These are just some of the wonderful places and events that you could enjoy in 2019. With everything from family fun, to arts and culture, music events, history, food and drink and so much more, there is something for everyone. Skip gen travel (multigenerational travel) has become a trend in recent years, with grandparents choosing to travel with grandchildren. In our opinion, Plymouth is a great choice to entertain all.
