Celebrating World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day is celebrated every year and was first established in 1980 to create global awareness about the importance of tourism. As a business we know the value that tourism brings into the local economy.

Britain’s Ocean City is on an exciting journey and Mayflower 400 presents an opportunity for the city to see tourism rise over the coming years. Well beyond 2020 we would like to see the legacy of the global event mark Plymouth as a leading UK destination to be enjoyed by guests from far and wide.

Destination Plymouth are working hard to raise the city’s profile and Plymouth has been shortlisted for the ‘Best UK City Break for Families’ in the Family Traveller Awards 2017. The public vote is open until midnight on 20th October and your vote would make a big difference. Each year, the city is host to a number of large events including the MTV Crashes Plymouth, the British Firework Championship as well as newcomers like the Royal William Yard Festival. These events bring large numbers of people to the region, who then stay in the area, visit local attractions and eat in local restaurants. Tourism in Britain’s Ocean City is changing and it is exciting to be part of the journey. As a hotel, we proudly welcome nearly 30,000 guests each year. We are proud to hold a Silver Green Tourism Award and operate a number of sustainability policies within the hotel. Each year we invest approx. £100k into the building and we are looking to continue that until 2020 and put in additional funding for our Make a Difference for Mayflower 400 campaign.
