A Magical Mini Wedding Collection
On Thursday 18th October 2018, we hosted our fourth ‘Duke Mini Wedding Collection’. Our increasingly popular Mini Collections are aimed to help engaged couples on their journey to finding their dream wedding venue. We dressed the hotel for a wedding, allowing couples the chance to gather wedding inspiration whilst seeing how the Duke could look for their big day. It also provides the perfect opportunity to meet our experienced team and some of the fantastic suppliers who we work with on a regular basis.
To make the most of our styled spaces, we hosted a photo shoot prior to the evening event, which featured the suppliers invited to exhibit at the Mini Collection. This resulted in some stunning images captured by Jay Stone Photography, which we are delighted to share with you.
Our stunning Hayward Room was set for a ceremony, styled by My Special Day. The lavish purple and silver chairs, coupled with dusky purple flowers perfectly complimented the décor of the space. Our Ballroom was set for a wedding breakfast, styled with deep blue chair sashes with a hint of sparkle (because who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle?!), stunning glass candelabras, a twinkling backdrop and festoon lighting.
The shoot took place across both rooms, plus in the public areas of the hotel, illustrating the diversity of the venue for wedding images, even if the weather is terrible outside!
We caught up with Jay to discover his inspiration for the shoot and how he found working with the hotel.
“Shooting at the Duke of Cornwall was effortless, the venue is a delight with beautiful architecture, designs and windows letting in light allowing for brilliant compositions. All the suppliers on the day were fantastic to work with, they all did a great job to make the venue look even better and the bridal prep was incredible. There are so many different places to take wonderful photos in the venue, from the intimate tower rooms with its incredible view to the bright ceremony rooms. I was very much spoilt for choice in taking photos of their wedding collection in 2018.”
Our beautiful cake for the day was created by Rachel from Cut me off a Slice, which was presented in a stunning bird cage provided by The Prop Factory. Here is what Rachel had to say with regards to her muse.
“For this photoshoot we took our cake design inspiration from the beautiful stationary provided by Dearly Beloved. Keeping the design bold with deep navy blue and crisp white roses and then replicating the invitation design onto the centre of the cake. Finishing off with a long trailing white silk ribbon.”
Gem Ryder was our wonderful make-up artist, creating the looks for our two beautiful model’s, Laura and Connie. Gem described her inspiration as the following:
“It is always a pleasure to work at The Duke and this time for the Mini Collection I chose a classic bridal look with two different Models. One had a stronger more evening inspired look and with the other a romantic daytime makeup look was achieved. Flawless dewy skin and makeup that enhanced their features was a key for both models. The Mini Collection itself was a lovely well attended evening with lots of wonderful suppliers.”
Gem worked closely on the day with April, owner of April Wagner Hair, who created stunning intricate hairstyles for our models. Although these ladies run separate businesses, they work wonderfully together and are a great choice for those looking for bridal party hair and make up.
“Another fantastic day at The Duke of Cornwall. This time I was styling for a 2018 Photoshoot and Mini collection in the evening. The Duke allowed me free rein with my hair styling, so I chose a modern day collection. This year, whilst styling my beautiful brides these were some stunning hair ups I loved to create. They are simple, elegant and very effective styles. The ‘Halo’ braid has been used a lot for both brides and bridesmaids as it is very versatile for different hair lengths and thicknesses. Although it has been popular, I’d say you would never get two hair ups exactly the same so the style stays looking unique. The ‘Rapunzel plait’ is also one of my favourites, it is just beautiful! It can be smooth, shiny and slightly more structured. Or it can be teased out and soft. Unfortunately, this doesn’t suit all hair types, as you can imagine you do need quite a bit of thickness and length to create such a detailed long plait. I really love being part of The Duke as they are a lovely friendly team, I cannot wait to be invited again.”
Janie from The Lucky Sixpence designed a stunning selection of jewellery, which not only complimented our models overall looks, but coordinated seamlessly with the shoot.
“I designed a blue vintage round detail comb with a matching hair pin set for the collection shoot as the shape and styling of the comb reflected the decedent feel of The Duke of Cornwall. The blue is a timeless colour and tied in with the styling of the function room. I also provided a beaded leaf vine which had a deco feel and floral comb. Although different in style the vintage elements and subtle sparkle provide any bride an elegant look fitting for The Duke. Although I was unable to attend the collection on the day, I love working with brides getting married there and am thrilled to be one of their recommended suppliers. The support and level of detail they provide for couples marrying there is second to none which in turn means I work with calm and relaxed brides!”
