Today, as part of the Jeanie Moore concert series, we welcomed Sehyogue Aulakh to The Duke of Cornwall Hotel. This 14 year old girl (yes 14!) is a student at Wells Cathedral School studying as a specialist percussionist. Music is a great passion of hers and having played piano from a young age she has recently turned to percussion; with a particular love of tuned percussion.
We had 10 minutes with her over a cup of tea before her performance to say good luck and get to know this astonishingly talented girl;
The Marimba is such a beautiful instrument but there are so many percussion instruments to choose from, why this one?
It's a long story...when I was younger I played the piano and then Viola. I ...

50 years ago this lovely couple had their wedding reception here at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, this month they returned to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary!
When asked how their return to The Duke was: "The hotel is exactly how we remembered it - apart from the revolving doors, they are new. We stayed in a lovely suite that our boys booked for us, the food was lovely and we couldn't fault a thing. We chose the hotel for our reception simply because it is such an iconic hotel, even back then and it has stood the test of time - how wonderful to be a part of such history"
They met at a dance hall ...
On Friday 11th March, we welcomed back a local children's charity, Friends and Families of Special Children to celebrate their 11th Annual Ball at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel. Friends and Families of Special Children are a non-profit organisation unique to Plymouth, providing information, support and services for families with disabled children. Described as a "life saver", the charity provides families with an opportunity to network and create bespoke training and educational environments dedicated to their needs. The ball this year was a Mardi Gras theme...cue the dancing girls, glitter (so much glitter!) and a real snake (some people had to swiftly leave the room)!
Kay O’Shaughnessy – founder of the charity said: “Our Mardi Gras Ball was a huge success ...

Make a Difference for Mayflower 400 has officially launched! With a front page headline in the Herald and our Ballroom full of like minded businesses, this new initiative got off to an excellent start.
Just four and a half years' away in 2020, the city will host a major events calendar and welcome hoards of international visitors as we commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower. Today is International Women's Day and the women who attend Women's Space in association with Shekinah, The Eddystone Trust and Trevi House, are celebrating in style with a cream tea here at The Duke.
Women's Space is about inspiring, supporting and empowering women to have a voice and move forward into achieving their full potential. We were more than happy to open our doors to these amazing ladies and provide a luxurious experience.
Upon arrival the ladies were escorted into our restaurant and treated to tea and coffee with home-made scones, of course topped with jam and cream (controversial Cornwall style). They sat around tables and began talking to successful business women, who kindly took time out of their day to inspire the ladies, ...
