Christmas Light Switch On
It certainly is the most wonderful time of the year and Britain’s Ocean City are starting the celebrations in style with the annual Christmas Light Switch On. Each year, crowds gather as Plymouth City Centre is lit up, which coupled with fantastic live entertainment makes for a truly magical evening. As the darker evenings draw in, Plymouth will shine.

Plymouth Loves Christmas Lights!
The Christmas holiday calendar officially kicks off with the switch-on of this year’s beautiful Christmas lights and the start of late-night shopping. The fun starts in the city centre Piazza from 4pm with a host of entertainment for the whole family before the streets are lit up at 6.30pm by Father Christmas himself!
Matt and Victoria from the Heart South West breakfast show will be hosting this year’s Christmas lights switch on in Plymouth, which launches the Christmas countdown and marks the start of late-night shopping in the city.
The entertainment starts at 4pm, with performances from local schools, theatre groups and the Party Princesses. The cast of Shrek The Musical, on at the Theatre Royal Plymouth from 13 to 24 November, will also appear on stage. Look out for a very special arrival during the evening as Santa himself will be coming along too!
The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm by Plymouth’s Invictus Games competitors Mark Ormrod, Nick Martin, Debbie Godfrey and Kelly Ganfield, along with Santa, the cast of Shrek and the Lord Mayor.
Closing the evening programme, local band The Native will perform an hour-long set to the crowds, featuring their alternative indie sound. 2018 has been a huge year for the band, who performed at some of the South West’s biggest festivals and opened for Bastille at MTV Presents: Ocean City Sounds following a public vote. They’ve also recently released their debut EP ‘Fall Down’.
