Ocean Jazz ‘n’ Blues Festival

Following the success of last year’s event on the Barbican, the Ocean City Blues ‘n’ Jazz Festival is back in Britain’s Ocean City! The festival kicked off today with a fantastic array of musicians and will continue over the weekend. With a wide variety of musical styles including Swing, Rock and Roll and Latin, there is something for everyone!

Top musicians will be taking to the stage in The Parade, as well as at bars and pubs around The Barbican, starting from midday until 10pm.

The acts include the Pete Canter Quartet, The Sultans, Far from the Delta and Joanne Cooke – and the musical styles range through the ages from swing to jump jive, Latin to rock and roll.

Supported by Plymouth City Council and backed by the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership the Ocean City Blues N Jazz Festival brings world-renowned musicians to the city’s historic quayside quarter.

Pete Canter Quartet – 12noon
Fine tenor saxophonist and composer Pete Canter playing his well crafter originals and choice standards with a turbo charged rhythm sections.

The Rumblestrutters – 1.15pm
The Rumblestrutters bring you feel-good blues, jazz and ragtime of the 1920s and ’30s.
The authentic sound of Prohibition America!

Magnolia Jazz Band – 5pm

Jack Cookson – 7.45pm
Jack is a multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter from the South West. His distinct style combines his deeply articulate lyrics with memorable melodic hooks and intricate, fingerstyle guitar arrangements, influenced by roots music from both sides of the Atlantic. He has shared the stage with the likes of Franz Nicolay, Cory Branan and Austin Lucas, and in early 2016 he was announced as one of the final nomineed for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

Andy Quick Band – 9pm

Joanna Cooke – 3.45pm
Classy soulful vocals, honest heartfelt songs. From intimate local venues and festival stage performances to recordings played across the world, Joanna’s soul and versatility shine through.

Her track record includes 120 live shows a year, local BBC TV and radio appearances with a single and 2 EP records released so far. Shows in 2017 include supporting both No 1 hit maker Rag ‘n’ Bone Man on his hand-picked bill; and highly regarded jazz-funk outfit The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ).

Becca Langsford – 7.45pm

Blacktop Deluxe – 9pm
Formed in March 2013, this Brit’ Blues Rock outfit have made a name for themselves with powerful performances of their original and atmospheric, Blues/Rock material.

Their music has been described as ‘Signature Brand’, ‘Guitar driven, Rockin’ Blues’ and has already allowed them to share stages with Walter Trout, Larry Miller, Robin Trower, Martin Barre, Wishbone Ash & Focus amongst others.

Great Western Jazz – 12noon

Far from the Delta – 1.15pm
Formed in 2010, Far From the Delta are a Devon based Blues band with a rock edge. Playing their own versions of old delta blues, Chicago blues, British blues invasion of the 60’s and original songs.

They have played various local festivals and pubs over the years and continue to do so. The band make sure they are a part of the local blues scene by attending local blues jams and events. Relatively young than some of their counterparts(all the band are in their 30’s) they certainly play a lively blues.

The Doghouse Rhythm and Blues Band – 5pm
