Layla’s Room – Barbican Theatre
Starts: Friday 7th October 2016
Ends: Saturday 8th October 2016
From: 7:30 pm
Barbican Theatre are thrilled to be welcoming Theatre Centre to their intimate auditorium on 7 and 8 October for their Layla’s Room tour and a series of professional theatre workshops for GCSE students.
For Layla, every day is a battleground; the pay gap, the thigh gap, over-sexed pop and selfies that are photoshopped – they’re just part of the world she lives in. But Layla’s world is about to change. While breaking out of her bedroom – and with drama, comedy, poetry and music as her weapons – Layla breaks down and makes sense of the realities, difficulties and absurdities of teenage life in the UK today.
Accompanying Theatre Centre’s performances of Layla’s Room on 7 and 8 October are also two unique one hour workshops perfect for those studying drama, English or PSHE.
Workshop 1: focuses on drama and theatre skills, and is delivered by professional actors with a thorough understanding of GCSE, A Level and BTEC curriculum requirements.
Workshop 2: looks at the personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) issues that arise during the course of the performance.
Barbican Theatre Young People’s Producer, Rosie McKay says
“We work closely with schools on a number of projects, so to be able to work with Theatre Centre to deliver these high quality, professional workshops is a privilege. We hope those attending will gain a lot from the workshops, plus enjoy the subjects and issues raised in the Layla’s Room performances afterwards”.
Layla’s Room tickets cost £10 for under 16s, students, over 60s or disabled or £13 full. There is also a group saver: buy 10 tickets and the 11th is free. Book at www.barbicantheatre.co.uk/performances, by calling 01752 267131 or in person at Barbican Theatre (Mon – Fri 11am – 6pm).
