Beard and Moustache Competition
Saturday 6th August 2016
From: 2:00 pm
Bearded and moustachioed men will converge upon Plymouth for the second year in a row after The Devon & Cornwall Beard and Moustache Championships announced its return. From neatly-cropped handlebar ‘taches to unkempt mutton chops and everything in between, the competition, now in its second year, celebrates the best in regional facial hair. The event was founded by Plymouth couple, Clair and Mike Wellsbury-Nye, after being inspired by a similar competition in Brighton in 2014.
“The day time will be the same as last year, with the same categories for beards and moustaches, but this year, we are going through the evening until midnight. We stopped the competition around 6pm last year, but we’re planning on going right through this time we’ve booked three, really good bands – two of which are local – and they’ll keep everyone thoroughly entertained. Hopefully, a longer competition will mean we can raise a few extra pounds for the Ambulance Trust, too.”
All sizes and styles of beard and moustache are encouraged to enter, and with seven categories to choose from, it’s not just the biggest beard that wins. There are also categories for ladies and children’s handmade beards, and spectators are very welcome.
“We want lots of people to come along on the day, in fancy dress if they wish, and enjoy the event.”
Tickets to the event, which The Duke of Cornwall Hotel are hosting on Saturday, August 6, from 2pm, are on sale now – with tickets available for the full day or just the evening.
