The Hayward has its Heyday!

It has been a fabulous week at the Duke and tonight the celebrations continued as we officially opened the Hayward Room. With our new luxurious wedding offer the Hayward was is much need of some TLC so in January the doors were closed and work began. For just over two months every inch of the room received the attention it deserved. Make a Difference for Mayflower 400 has officially launched! With a front page headline in the Herald and our Ballroom full of like minded businesses, this new initiative got off to an excellent start. Just four and a half years' away in 2020, the city will host a major events calendar and welcome hoards of international visitors as we commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower. Aimed at businesses across Plymouth, this event was the launch of Plymouth's preparations for getting the city ready for Mayflower 400. Today is International Women's Day and the women who attend Women's Space in association with Shekinah, The Eddystone Trust and Trevi House, are celebrating in style with a cream tea here at The Duke. Women's Space is about inspiring, supporting and empowering women to have a voice and move forward into achieving their full potential. We were more than happy to open our doors to these amazing ladies and provide a luxurious experience. Shackleton Celebration

More than 100 years ago the Endurance sank beneath the ice on the Weddell Sea, near Antarctica. Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition was an attempt to make the first land crossing of the Antarctic continent.  After Shackleton stayed at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel on 7th August 1914, the expedition left England and sailed via Buenos Aires and South Georgia before departing for the Antarctic on December 5. But early in the journey the ship and its 28-man crew became trapped in the pack ice of the Weddell Sea.    ...
