Plymouth Pirate Weekend

The award-winning Plymouth Pirate Weekend returns to our shores on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May 2018 for two days packed full of family fun. This fantastic family event takes place all around Sutton Harbour and the Barbican. Established in 2011, it has grown every year. People of all ages set sail for the Barbican where there are a sea of pirates including Plymouth’s very own Jonty Depp! Fancy dress is encouraged and with so many people getting involved it is great fun for all the family.

In previous years, we have seen a whale next to the Boathouse Café where you could go inside and explore. There was face painting, stalls, sea shanty’s, Pirate school, canon firing, Mermaid school and so much more – the event schedule was jam packed from 10am – 4pm on both days with competitions and a fantastic food offer from all of the local restaurants and cafes.

Hop aboard the two tall ships that will be docked in Sutton Harbour and imagine you’re sailing the high seas. Back on dry land, you can meet Plymouth’s very own Captain Jack Sparrow, Jonty Depp, and his evil adversary Captain Barbosa, or settle down for story-time with Melody the mermaid. To keep everyone entertained, sea shanty bands will fill the streets with song while puppeteers captivate adults and children alike, and younger children can let off steam in the Giant Octopus soft play activity centre. The ‘Best Dressed Pirate’ competition will also be returning, so get your eyepatches and Jolly Rogers at the ready.

For those who have a sense of adventure to take to the high seas, land lubbers can join the Mount Batten Pirates on a 30 minute Powerboat Experience and see the Hoe, Drakes Island and Plymouth Sound (pre-booking essential).
