Rolex Fastnet Race
6th August, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 13th August, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
The following details were provided by the event organisers, for full details click here.
The 47th edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club will start in the Solent from Cowes, Isle of Wight, on Sunday 6th August, finishing in Plymouth via the Fastnet Rock, the symbol of the race, located off the southern coast of Ireland. Boats will hope for a good breeze in order to be in Plymouth in time for the British Firework Championships on Wednesday 9 – Thursday 10 August.
This race is on every sailor’s bucket list, and for good reason, as it challenges the mental and physical abilities of crews and the technical abilities of yachts. To complete this race is an achievement in itself!
This year, RORC has relaxed the limit of the maximum monohull length of 100ft ensuring the race will attract the biggest and finest racing yachts from around the world. Plymouth Yacht Haven marina manager Steve Kitchen said: “We encourage local residents and race spectators to come to the Yacht Haven to see the event in person.”
The race village will be full of pop-up stalls, retail outlets and live music. The marina will open pontoons to allow the public to see the boats and soak up the post-race atmosphere.
